Character Demographics:
Fandom: Firefly
Name: Captain Malcolm Reynolds
Age: Mid thirties
Physical Appearance: Mal is taller than most, but doesn't tower over them at 6' 1" tall. His build is sturdy, chest broad and muscled from hard physical labor. On his chest he has numerous 'battle wounds' from many jobs gone wrong. Oftentimes he looks quite intimidating with his thin lips pressed into an even thinner line, his nostrils flared and his blue eyes bright below slightly narrowed brows. Mal keeps his sandy brown hair clipped short with 'bangs' hanging near his eyes, even while they're not long enough to actually be in his eyes. Mal's attire includes tan pants that are oftentimes quite snug held up by suspenders and a long-sleeved button down shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. Topping this off are his brown boots and long brown coat which is more symbolic than anything. In addition to his brown coat, Mal never goes anywhere without his gun strapped in a holster to his hip.

Significant Other: Won't admit feelings for Inara Serra, so…none.

Character Biography:
History: Mal grew up on a ranch on Shadow with his mother. Mrs. Reynolds raised her son to be a proper gentleman and have faith in God. Her ranch hands on the other hand taught Mal everything he needed to know to survive in the 'verse outside of his mother's ranch. They taught him everything from riding a horse to firing a rifle.

Mal had always harbored a sort of dislike for the Alliance. When trouble began to stir and the Independent forces began to build up an army, Mal was right there volunteering. He worked his way up to Sergeant of the 57th overlanders and fought all the way through the battle of Serenity Valley. It was the most devastating loss for the Independents/Browncoats. Only Mal and Zoë Alleyne survived from his platoon.

Six years later, Mal had bought a ship and acquired a crew with Zoë as his first mate. He and his crew flew about the 'verse doing odd transport jobs and other smugglings. Most was legit, but many times things were not so legit. As he worked, he made friends and foes alike, but none mattered much unless they were needed. Mal had everything he could ever want and need right on his ship, Serenity.

Delivering cargo to one of the crime lord's on Persephone, Mal picked up some passengers. Later he found out that one was an Alliance spy that he quickly rid himself of and two others were fugitives. One of them was a doctor and Mal took him on so long as he kept an eye on his 'crazy sister.'

His relationships with his crew are for the most part very good despite the occasional disagreement with his mercenary or the ship's medic. He is closest to his first mate who is in fact his best friend. He has a big brotherly sort of relationship to the ship's mechanic, Kaylee and is fiercely protective of her. The Companion, Inara Serra is another story. There is a heavy sexual tension between the two, but neither will admit it. Still, he flies on.
Personality: Everything about Mal comes back to his ship. His ship and his crew is his life. His loyalty to them could be said to be either a strength or a weakness. He would sacrifice himself for their wellbeing and would risk his own life to save theirs. In addition to his loyalty, Mal is a good leader having the ability to convince others to follow him. While Mal is not the best of men, he has proven quite honorable sometimes. He does not do things seeking honor though, he does them merely because he believes them right. Mal knows a lot of people and can almost always find someone to help him get a job done if he needs them. Not only this, but he's got a mighty fine way of persuading with his six-shot pistol. Mal is an excellent shot with his pistol and he is rarely seen without it.

Mal's weakness far outnumber his strengths. He's got many people out for his hide, having got on their wrong side either by choice or not. We bring his loyalty to the front here in his weaknesses. He cares about his crew and ship and thus it becomes a weakness when they are threatened. Not only loyalty to his crew, but Mal sticks to his word all the time even if it endangers his crew and ship. He goes in and somehow manages to pull all the strings and get everything done right, withstanding several battle wounds of course. He harbors a great dislike for the Alliance as he himself is a Browncoat and fought for independence during Unification War. He takes nearly any job that would thwart the infamous Alliance just for the heck of it.

How Other Perceive Your Character: The majority of his crew sees him as a better person than he sees himself and hold a great deal of respect for the man. Others see Mal as a troublemaker and not much more than a petty thief. Many don't understand the choices and actions he takes.
Beliefs, Convictions, Morals: Mal is very strongly against the Alliance and nothing can change his mind on that. Mal is loyal and true to his word whether it will cause himself much pain and suffering.
Reason for Escaping to Canada: Mal was actually running from Reavers and the Alliance. It's quite complicated. The Alliance had caught up with them again with River and Simon (pre BDM). They were on Bellerphon in a small town and a Reaver skiff landed. Mal somehow got separated from Zoë and Jayne and had taken off running as the skiff chased him. Apparently he fell through a time rip stumbling into Aternaville.
Their DHAs [Dreams, Hopes, and Aspirations] for Canada: Uhm… Staying alive, finding his way back home, staying alive, mayhaps earn a few credits, and uh…did I mention staying alive?
